This research addresses the issue of compensation for victims within the context of transitional justice, as one of the essential components of achieving fairness and redress in societies that have witnessed gross human rights violations. The research reviews the conceptual framework of compensation and its legal dimensions, focusing on the most prominent relevant international and national mechanisms. It also discusses the challenges facing achieving fair and effective compensation for victims, drawing on comparative experiences from countries that have undergone transition.
